People defy social distancing on day 4 of Zimbabwe National lockdown. A visit at Mount Darwin business centre by Bulawayo24.com proved that people are already defying the order at day 4 of the 21-day decree of the country’s total lockdown. Scores of people in Mount Darwin, Mashonaland Central province have defied president Emmerson Mnangagwa’s decree of staying at home in isolation of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The major challenge is the social distancing of 1 meter apart from each other which is a precautionary requirement to avoid the spread of Coronavirus. The residents are scrambling for food in supermarkets and vendors are back on the market. “It appears this lockdown is not working in Mount Darwin people do not even know the so-called social distancing especially in supermarkets people are scrambling for food,” said Victor Phiri.
“Vendors and miners are back on the streets especially at Mukarakadzi mining area and our fear is this pandemic might wipe away the majority of us here,” lamented Danai Chigwaya.
