The problem in Zimbabwe is that the predecessor is far much better than the successor

The problem in Africa is that the predecessor is far much better than the successor. In terms of economic management Ian Douglas Smith’s racist settler regime managed the full UN ravaged Rhodesian economy than Robert Gabriel Mugabe did the partially Western targeted sanctioned Zimbabwean economy. And Mugabe managed the economy better than Mnangagwa under similar conditions.

The judiciary is a more glaring example. The first Independence Chief Justice Dr Enoch Dumbutshena was a very brilliant and respectable judiciary officer far much better than the successor Gubbay. But Gubbay was miles ahead of Chidyausika. And Chidyausika was a shining star compared with the present clueless nincompoop Malaba who has brought the name not only of the judiciary but the nation into disrupt.

The same can be said about the successive RBZ governors. Dr Kombo Moyana was a monetarist par excellence far much better than the successor Keynesian Dr Tsumba. In came stupid Gideon Gono who printed money like counterfeits. But Dr Gono was more knowledgeable than the successor Dr Panonetsa John John Bond Mangudya who promises to inject more money into the economy without increasing the money supply.

The same can be said about the successive UZ chancellors Prof Kamba was the best and the most capable vice-chancellor than all his successors. This can replicated in government ministries, parastatals, independent commissioners, newspaper editors, private sector CEO’s.

Why have we gone wrong as a nation?
