TEENAGE midfield sensation Jonah Fabisch will lead Zimbabwe Under-23 national football team’s attack in the final round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa following his call-up on Tuesday.

Fabisch who plays for Hamburger SV and has featured for Germany’s U19s is the son of the late former national team coach Reinhard and is eligible to feature for the country as his mother is from Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe Under-23 football team coach Tonderai Ndiraya called up Fabisch along with three other foreign based players in a 27-man provisional squad.

The make-up of the side is break away from Ndiraya’s initial bid to lure a host of the country’s Europe born and bred players.

The Dynamos coach held his heart in his hand as his charges needed a late rally to beat Mozambique 2-0 in the penultimate AFCON qualifier through goals from substitutes Delic Murimba and Obriel Murimba.

It appears that performance has inspired a change of heart from the former Ngezi Platinum coach who has now gravitated towards local based players for this make-or-break encounter.

Eliminating South Africa and playing at the AFCON finals in Egypt will give Zimbabwe a chance to fight for one of the three berths reserved for African nations at the 2020 Olympics.

The match will be played over two legs, the first taking place on September 6 away while the return is set for Barbourfields stadium on September 10.
