The ruling party Zanu-PF’s legislator for Chivi South, Killer Zivhu, has castigated his colleagues in Masvingo whom he said stole 15 tonnes of rice donated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa for distribution to the constituency.
Zivhu says the rice is now being sold in Masvingo town, and has reported some named party officials at the Harare Central Police Station.
The revelations by Zivhu come as Zanu-PF national chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, while speaking last month at the party’s 18th Annual National People’s Conference at Goromonzi High School, warned President Emmerson Mnangagwa that the party was full of thieves who stole things meant for the poor.
Last week, President Mnangagwa donated 15 tonnes of Chinese rice to every rural constituency as part of his Christmas cheer presents, but Zivhu claims his constituency’s was looted by Zanu-PF chefs.
“The President gave us rice to donate to the people who are facing hunger in our constituencies, but when I went to theAdvertisementGrain Marketing Board depot, I was told it had already been collected by a certain lady (name withheld).
“The rice is now being sold in shops in Masvingo. The President said no to corruption but some top officials won’t pay heed and have stolen the donations,” Zivhu sensationally claimed.
He said he has since reported the named officials to Harare Central Police under case number IR 010074.
Last month, Muchinguri-Kashiri blasted fellow party bigwigs for stealing from the poor.
“There are thieves who are taking agricultural inputs meant for farmers and selling them. These people should be monitored.
“We have corrupt people in the party. Some even stole regalia meant for the party supporters,” she told delegates at the annual conference.
Meanwhile, GMB officials say they were only tasked with the storage of the rice and not its distribution, which they say was left to politicians.
